What do you think Marguerite Duras meant in her autobiography by "the story of my life does not exist"?
The full quotation was: "The story of my life doesn't exist. Does not exist. There's never any center to it. No path, no line. There are great spaces where you pretend there used to be someone, but it's not true, there was no one."
Most people can look back and see a path through their lives and construct their life's journey events which ked in turn to other events and an ultimate conclusion. This was a woman driven by desire who saw her life as a collection of experiences, perhaps, rather than a narrative. She was also someone who didn't relish the idea of an biographer delving into her past, discussing her with all and sundry and drawing conclusions and perhaps representing as a story -- a narrative -- something which to her was a meaningless and random series of events. She may well have said this to her biographer in the hope of persuading him that hers was not a life which he could readily relate.
What do you think Marguerite Duras meant in her autobiography by "the story of my life does not exist"?
She has an enlightened perspective. Our lives are just stories we make-up about ourselves. When you ask the question "Who am I?" - there doesn't seem to be an answer. There doesn't seem to be something tangible. So we sting together events and call that our life.

Does anyone have memories of traveling on a ship called the Princess Marguerite between Seattle and Victoria.?
I am referring to the ship of that name that sailed between 1949 and the late 80's/early 90's, not the one sunk while on war duty during WWII or the later ferry to bear that name in more recent years.
Does anyone have memories of traveling on a ship called the Princess Marguerite between Seattle and Victoria.?
No, but there are better cruise ships if you are looking. I highly recommend Disney and Norwegian Cruise Lines.

In "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy, why do Sir Percy and Marguerite marry?
My daughter's novel question for homework..we have not been able to find a definite answer anywhere in the novel.
In "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy, why do Sir Percy and Marguerite marry?
Because they were attacted to each other. I don't think the book ever specifically says, "they married because..." but from reading between the lines one realizes that their marriage was not founded on much actual "substance". Thus their relational issues. Not to mention that he thinks she is a traitor.

Where can I find a copy of marguerite Patten everyday cookbook circa 1968 (uk edition)?
The book is no longer in print, but many libraries have the book. I checked out several libraries online and they have the book.
You may also want to check out some stores that sell use books.
Where can I find a copy of marguerite Patten everyday cookbook circa 1968 (uk edition)?
Abebooks (www.abebooks.co.uk) is a great site where lots of booksellers list rare and second hand books.
(use www.abebooks.com if you are ordering from US).
Abebooks appears to have a UK edition. See number 9 below.
Amazon UK also shows 2 books but does not show which version.
Good luck.

Ancestors of Abraham Martin and Marguerite Langlois who lived in Quebec early 1600s?
The English fought the French on the Plains of Abraham.
Ancestors of Abraham Martin and Marguerite Langlois who lived in Quebec early 1600s?
I trace back to this couple 7 different times. While there are many who have speculated on hisparents, there is no credible documentation to substantiate the theories.
Her parents were Guillaume Langlois and Jeanne Millet.
Here's an article from the Library of Canada that might help you understand why theories on his parentage are never going to be answered.

Reply:Bernard SERIN has this on his web page. I typed in Abraham's name with Marguerite's on the bottom of the page that first comes up. I had to put in 1600, search for a 10 year span in order to shorten the list.
