My daughter's novel question for homework..we have not been able to find a definite answer anywhere in the novel.
In "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy, why do Sir Percy and Marguerite marry?
Because they were attacted to each other. I don't think the book ever specifically says, "they married because..." but from reading between the lines one realizes that their marriage was not founded on much actual "substance". Thus their relational issues. Not to mention that he thinks she is a traitor.

Where can I find a copy of marguerite Patten everyday cookbook circa 1968 (uk edition)?
The book is no longer in print, but many libraries have the book. I checked out several libraries online and they have the book.
You may also want to check out some stores that sell use books.
Where can I find a copy of marguerite Patten everyday cookbook circa 1968 (uk edition)?
Abebooks (www.abebooks.co.uk) is a great site where lots of booksellers list rare and second hand books.
(use www.abebooks.com if you are ordering from US).
Abebooks appears to have a UK edition. See number 9 below.
Amazon UK also shows 2 books but does not show which version.
Good luck.

Ancestors of Abraham Martin and Marguerite Langlois who lived in Quebec early 1600s?
The English fought the French on the Plains of Abraham.
Ancestors of Abraham Martin and Marguerite Langlois who lived in Quebec early 1600s?
I trace back to this couple 7 different times. While there are many who have speculated on hisparents, there is no credible documentation to substantiate the theories.
Her parents were Guillaume Langlois and Jeanne Millet.
Here's an article from the Library of Canada that might help you understand why theories on his parentage are never going to be answered.

Has anyone read "The Lover" by Marguerite Duras?
I felt this novel to be engulfing and I struggled not to drown in her despair. What elements do you think she utilizes to effectively create such an environment? I know it wasn't empathy, but I can't pinpoint what it is. No, this isn't for a book report, I just love to talk book.
Has anyone read "The Lover" by Marguerite Duras?
Yes, and it is depressing but extremely well written. Maybe it's the stream of consciousness narrative, and switching between 1st and 3rd person, that makes this book really draw the reader in.

I wrote this originally just for Marguerite. this is revised as the original is hers. How is this short one.
"the prince"
Tears run down my wizened face,
wishing for just once.
I the mighty Darkened Prince,
weeping like a fool.
Once it seems so long ago,
I stood so straight and tall,
A prince is just in waiting,
to the throne of the true King.
I may never reach that high,
At this thought I merely sigh.

Maybe it's time for the Prince to be crowned King: perhaps Sovereignty is what you seek...
Reply:Nice poetic pause at the end, giving the reader time to ponder and what not!

Nice work:)

Have they ever made a movie of Marguerite Henry's book, "King of the Wind"?
I think it would make an awesome movie!
Have they ever made a movie of Marguerite Henry's book, "King of the Wind"?
Yes, they have made a movie of Marguerite Henry's book, "King of the Wind." It was made in 1989-1990. I typed it up onto imdb. Here is the link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097668/
Although I do wish they would make a new one because it would be totally awesome. I have never seen the movie. I have no clue if it was good or not and if it follows everything that happens in the book.
Reply:I have always thought a movie should be made from the "Misty" sequel, "Stormy". It is actually more about Misty than the original one.
Do you all know that Misty and Stormy were real?
They have been preserved by taxidermy and are on dispay from time to time on what is left of the old Beebe farm (most has been sold for development ).
Reply:I don't think they have, but it would definately be an amazing film... especially with today's movie technology. omg, they BETTER be planning a movie, i really want to see it.
Reply:Yes, they did. It was a British movie and it was made in 1990. My grandkids loved it. It might be available as a DVD on Amazon.
Reply:OMg I LOVE that book...I have read it FOUR times. That;s the most i have ever read any book lol...yes I agree it would make an awesome movie, I hope they have/do xD

What did marguerite monet riel do for a living?
the wife of louis riel.
What did marguerite monet riel do for a living?
Thank you for this question. The research gave me more knowledge of the conflicts in Canada when it was forming.
"Marguerite (Monet Riel). . . She took on the all responsibility of a plains wife: Gathering fire wood, cooking, cleaning and struggling on very little money and food. She was alone most of the time with her children, while Louis was fighting for rights of their people. Louis had a most devoted wife who worshipped him but feared the harm that could befall their family at the hands of his enemies."
11/22 ADDITION: Parentheses above including maiden %26amp; married name, and the following:
"In June 1884, Marguerite (%26amp; children) accompanied Louis to Batoche, Saskatchewan, in spite of the looming conflict. She was at her husband's side during the battle of 1885 until Riel surrendered May 15th, to Middleton's scouts. Cold and hungry. Marguerite and her children hid in caves near Batoche while awaiting word from Louis. Instead Louis' brother Joseph appeared and took Marguerite and her children to live with Riel's mother in St. Boniface, MB."
She was a mother and a wife, and died when she was 26 yrs old.

What is the meaning of the short story in the most recent New Yorker titled The Bible by Marguerite Duras?
You can read the short story here: http://www.newyorker.com/fiction/content...
I'm curious because I want to articulate to myself what it is that I actually find fascinating about New Yorker short story fiction.
What is the meaning of the short story in the most recent New Yorker titled The Bible by Marguerite Duras?
Its means that even though Jesus died for our sins, and even though we have been given 2000 years to continue with his mission (whether he was god or not). We have just manged to scew tthings up.

Have you ever heard about Marguerite Yourcenar?
If you did then can you please tell me about her short story "Magie" (Magic)? What's the subject of it?
Have you ever heard about Marguerite Yourcenar?
I've read some of the folk-fairy tales by Yourcenar and enjoyed them, although they have a bit of a negative edge, people having heads chopped off etc. In The Abyss there is sort of the sense of traveling from one town to the next, a kind of almost guidebook, but, again, with sort of an odd edge. The imagery is terrific but I haven't read Magie.

Lost unusual Christmas Pudding recipe from Times paper 10 plus years ago, may be by Marguerite Patten?
It was not a traditional recipe and I think it had Marsala Sherry in it, it was mentioned in a Womens Hour program on the radio, when it was still on in the afternoon.

Anyone ever tasted a cake called a marguerite?
Its a cake with layers of genoese sponge, fresh cream, meringue and a pastry base..yummy!
Anyone ever tasted a cake called a marguerite?
1 (18.25 ounce) package orange cake mix
1 (3.4 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
4 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2/3 cup water
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup tequila
2 tablespoons triple sec liqueur
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon tequila
2 tablespoons triple sec liqueur
2 tablespoons lime juice
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10 inch Bundt pan.
In a large bowl combine cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, oil, water, lemon juice 1/4 cup tequila and 2 tablespoons triple sec. Beat for 2 minutes.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes; remove to rack and pour glaze over cake while still warm.
To make the glaze: In a small bowl, combine confectioners' sugar with 1 tablespoon tequila, 2 tablespoons triple sec and 2 tablespoons lime juice. Mix until smooth
Reply:Sounds greasy and sticky. I would never make a cake with lime and tequila. Actually, it is traditional in Mexico and the U.S. South to marinate a steak in lime juice and then cook it with butter and garlic, then flavour the sauce with a splash of tequila. I have made a pound steak with black pepper, lime and garlic and then fried it in butter. Absolutely delicious.

I am researching an artist Marguerite Reeb, who and where is she?
I recently purchased an oil painting by Ms.Reeb, here in central Florida USA.She is so talented, and I hope to know a little history about her. Thank-x
I am researching an artist Marguerite Reeb, who and where is she?
The first time you asked this question, Guess Who At Large found an indication of a person by this name in France, seemingly teaching painting at a school, but you chose another answer (having to do with genealogy and family trees, which could do nothing to help you) as best answer.
The second time you asked, Ellen M had found the same information as Guess Who At Large.
The third time (through Yahoo France), two other French answerers replied, one with the same answer (which you had acknowledged in your question), and one with a contact e-mail address you could try (although I can't figure out how she made the connection between M.R. and that association, which seems to be more of a sports association).
There seems to have been a Marguerite Reeb in New Orleans in the late 1800s.
Otherwise, the only other more-or-less contemporary Marguerite Reeb I have been able to find is a woman who lived in Texas and passed away 2 years ago, at the age of 98:
http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-b...
She was originally mentioned in an obituary for her sister (at least I believe it is the same person), a certain "Mary Clark", dating from 1997:
"Survivors include a son, Fray Smith of Amarillo; a daughter, Sara Johnson of Junction; a brother, John B. Hauge of Hobbs, N.M.; a sister, Marguerite Reeb of Dallas; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren."
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/...
It seems there's no other information on the Net... at least at this time. Whether "your" Marguerite is the lady who lived in Texas, or instead maybe the one who has something to do with painting in France... there's only one way to find out...
Find someone who can help you follow the two French leads you already have, someone who speaks and writes French and can attempt those contacts for you (at least the school one).
Here it seems useless to keep asking. At least wait a while before trying again.

What does the 'door in the wall' represent in the book ("The Door in the Wall") by Marguerite De Angeli?
I read some of the book, and I have to write a summary about it. I looked it up, but none of the summaries I've read discuss the representation of 'the door in the wall'. My last day of school is tomorrow, so it's very crucial that my question is answered as soon as possible!
What does the 'door in the wall' represent in the book ("The Door in the Wall") by Marguerite De Angeli?
The Door in the Wall (by Marguerite de Angeli)
Trust, diligence and finally service are the doors through which Robin (the main character) passes, overcoming the seemingly impregnable wall of affliction, disappointment and loneliness. As Robin takes his place in Sir Peter's family, an opportunity to defend his mentor and the king takes shape. Bravely, Robin does what no other could do and becomes the hero of a great victory, and the pride and delight of his mother and father.
The Door in the Wall, the Newbery Award Medal winner in 1950, is an excellent companion piece to studying the Middle Ages. Marguerite de Angeli (1889-1987), a self-taught illustrator and author of over thirty children's books, carefully developed and researched the idea for the story when traveling in England. The novel is filled with historical facts about life in medieval England. A proper title eluded her until her husband reminded her of an incident when she had counselled her son, "When you come to a stone wall, if you look far enough, you will find a door in it."
This is good advice to remember: whenever adversity blocks our way, and walls us off from our dreams, God provides a door through the wall and makes a better way.
(Hope I wasn't too late to help you!)
Reply:What did the door say to the Wall?........nothing doors don't talk..........Ha Ha
